Whitecap Jr. Curling Camp set for APM Centre Aug. 18-23. Ice tech course starts Aug. 14

Curl Atlantic‘s Whitecap Junior Curling Camp moves to the APM Centre in Cornwall PEI this year, from August 18-23. All 96 spots in the camp are filled, and campers will be staying at a University of Prince Edward Island residence. There are three categories of participants – Intermediate (age 12-14), Advanced (age 15-17), and High Performance (age 16-18 with 6+ years of competitive experience).

The APM Centre will be hosting the 2013 through 2015 camps, with an option for 2016 as well.

Previous attendees of the camp include Brett Gallant, 2009 Canadian Junior Champion and Whitecap Instructor, who says that the training he received at the camp helped him advance to the championship level: “No question – the training I received from the Whitecap Curling Camp propelled me to a Canadian Championship. I think every aspiring champion needs to experience this camp.”

The camp will also give the curlers much-needed experience curling on arena ice. Curlers in Atlantic Canada generally play in curling clubs only, and may be at a disadvantage when participating in larger events, including Canadian championships, usually held in arenas, so this camp will give them a chance to play in this type of venue.

A level I ice technicians course is planned in advance of the event, from August 14-18.
