The AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic wrapped up this afternoon in Brockville ON, with Sault Ste. Marie Ontario’s Brad Jacobs beating Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg 7-5 in the men’s final. A triple in the third end and a stolen single in the final end made the difference for the Ontario squad, who beat the Niklas Edin rink from Sweden 8-3 in the semi-final round, taking a five-ender in the seventh.
The Brad Gushue rink from St. John’s, which includes PEI natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey, lost 8-5 to Stoughton in their semi.
The Swiss Mirjam Ott rink beat Ottawa’s Rachel Homan foursome 8-5 in the women’s final, building up a 5-0 lead after three ends. Defending event champion Homan narrowed the gap with a triple in the fourth, and cut the lead to just one point after 6, but Ott took a deuce in the seventh, and ran Homan out of rocks in the final end.
24 men’s and 12 women’s teams took part. The Jacobs rink pocketed $10,000 for their men’s division win, while Ott and her team pick up $6,000.
