Gushue rink ready for the Pre-Trials after World Curling Tour win today in Gatineau QC

2006 Olympic champion Brad Gushue drew to the four foot with his last rock this afternoon to beat the Robert Rumfeldt foursome by a 6-3 score in the final of the Challenge Chateau Cartier in Gatineau Quebec. The win was worth $11,000 for the Gushue squad, which includes PEI natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey at third and second, respectively, along with lead Geoff Walker. It’s also their final event before Gushue begins his attempt at another Olympic medal, as the Pre-Trials get underway November 5th in Kitchener.

Team Gushue pulled off seven straight wins, qualifying in the A pool of this triple-knockout World Curling Tour event, edging reigning Canadian Champion Brad Jacobs and his Sault Ste. Marie Ont. team 3-2 in the quarter-finals, and downing Harold Rajala and his Ontario foursome 7-2 in the semi-final round. Gushue was runner-up last year, losing to Mark Dacey of Halifax in the final.

Lisa Farnell of Elgin Ont. won the women’s event, beating Katie Morrisey of Ottawa 7-4 in the championship game.
