Three Island rinks competing in Jim Sullivan Curling Classic this weekend in Saint John

Three Island rinks, skipped by Rod MacDonald, Jamie Newson, and Blair Weeks, are playing in the 2nd annual Jim Sullivan Curling Classic Atlantic Curling Tour cashspiel this weekend at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John NB. The event is an 18 team triple knockout with prize money going  to the top 8 teams. All games are eight ends.

Play got underway this morning at 9:30, and wraps up with the 9 am Sunday final. MacDonald lost his opening game 4-3 to Terry Odishaw, but rebounded with a 6-5 win over David Sullivan this afternoon, while Newson edged Zach Eldridge 6-5 in his opening match, and Weeks lost his first game 5-2 to Rene Comeau, but edged Burgess Peter Burgess 5-4 this afternoon.

New Brunswick’s James Grattan is 2-0 and will play the winner of 6:30 game this evening between Newson and Odishaw at 9:30 am Saturday to determine the 1st qualifying spot in the championship round.
