Newson playing in semi-finals at Jim Sullivan Curling Classic

 PEI’s Jamie Newson rink are currently playing the Marc Lecocq team from New Brunswick in the noon semi-finals at the second annual Jim Sullivan Curling Classic Atlantic Curling Tour cashspiel in Saint John.  Lecocq stole the last end to edge PEI’s Blair Weeks rink 5-4 in the quarter-finals this morning, while Newson beat Terry Odishaw 8-6. Paul Dobson is playing James Grattan in the other semi.  Grattan brought his game this morning to a speedy conclusion with a six point sixth end against Zach Eldridge.This is an 18 team triple-knockout event, with eight end games.

The Newson rink includes Andrew Robinson, Sean Clarey and John Desrosiers. The third Island rink in the event were the Rod MacDonald team, who just missed their second chance at the playoffs Saturday evening, finishing play with a 3-3 record, after losing their “C” qualifier to Eldridge, who stole the last end to win by a 5-4 score.

The final is at 3 pm.

The winning rink will go home with $3,750, with $2,500 going to the runner-up. The third and fourth place teams will each receive $1,250, while the remaining quarter-finalist rinks, skipped by Weeks, Odishaw, Tom Sullivan, and Eldridge  will pocket $900 each.
