Final Reminder: Tankard deadline is Thursday. Masters, Canada Games entries due Jan. 2

Entry deadlines are approaching for the PEI Tankard men’s (Dec. 19) and the Master’s (deadline: Jan. 2), provincial curling championships, as well as the provincial Canada Games curling trials (Jan. 2).

The championship round for the 2014 PEI Tankard provincial Men’s Curling Championships will take place at the Montague Curling Club, from February 5-9. Depending on the number of entries, one or two preliminary events may also be held, January 16-20, and/or January 23-27 at locations to be announced later. The defending PEI Tankard champs are the rink of Eddie MacKenzie, Anson Carmody, Alex MacFadyen, and Sean Ledgerwood, who stole a point in the extra end in last season’s final to beat their Charlottetown Curling Complex clubmates, the Rod MacDonald rink, by a 7-6 score. The 2014 winning team will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 1-9 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, BC. Entry deadline for the PEI Tankard is December 19. Entry fee is $200 per team plus a $35/player per season CCA Competitor Fee. Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com. Six teams are signed up so far. Masters

The Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside is this year’s host for the Curl PEI Provincial Masters Curling Championships, January 27-30 (revised dates), with men’s and women’s divisions for curlers age 60 and over. Defending champions are the Mel Bernard rink from the host club, who are seeking their fourth consecutive PEI Masters title, and the Diane MacKay foursome from the Charlottetown and Cornwall clubs. Winners and runners-up in both the men’s and the women’s divisions earn the right to compete in the Maritime Masters Championships, March 14-17 at the Cornwall Curling Club.. The winning teams, or the highest-finishing men’s and women’s rinks that choose to attend, are also invited to participate in the 2014 ATB Financial Canadian Masters Championships, March 31 to Apr. 6 at the Coaldale Granite Curling Club in Coaldale Alberta. Entry fee for the PEI championships is $200 per team. Entry deadline is January 2, 2014. Entries to-date are displayed at the event website: PEICurling.com/masters

Canada Games

The 2015 Canada Winter Games are being held in Prince George, BC from February 13—March 1, 2015. The men’s curling event will take place during Week 1 (Feb. 13-21) and the women’s event will take place Week 2 (Feb. 21-Mar. 1). Curl PEI is conducting the PEI Selection Trials from January 30-February 2 2014 at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. The Trials will qualify two men’s teams and two (2) women’s teams to be named the Curl PEI 2015 Training Teams.

The 2015 PEI Canada Games Curling Teams (one men’s and one women’s) will be named after a best of three game series held between the Training Teams. The winner of each series will be Team PEI. This competition will be held on a weekend in November, 2014 (dates and location to be determined).

Entry fee for the Trials is $180/team and covers the best of 3 series as well. Entry deadline is January 2nd 2014, and all entries must be made online at PEICurling.com.

In order to compete, curlers shall be a maximum of 17 years of age on December 31, 2014; therefore they must be born on or since January 1, 1997. The coaches of the teams associated with the Training Teams must be NCCP Competition Introduction certified, in order to continue on the training process with the team.  Each coach will have to complete the CCA Canada Winter Games Professional Development Module prior to the final competition.
