PEI Mixed, Seniors move from 10 to 8 ends this year, Mixed entries due Thu. Mixed Doubles Fri., U18, Seniors due Jan 23

The 2014 Curl PEI Provincial Mixed Curling Championships will take place February 13-17 at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, with the winning team advancing to the Canadian Mixed, which will be held November 8-15 at the North Bay Granite Curling Club, with the pre-qualifier event taking place Nov. 6-7. The Rod MacDonald foursome from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club and the Charlottetown Curling Complex are the defending PEI Mixed champs, beat the Cornwall Curling Club’s Bill Hope rink by a 9-2 score in last year’s final at the Montague Curling Club. The PEI Mixed moves from a ten to an eight end event this year.

Entries for this year’s provincial event are due January 16 2014. Entry fee is $200 per team, plus a $35 per player per team CCA Competitor’s fee. Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com.

Mixed Doubles

Curl PEI will be hosting its inaugural Provincial Mixed Doubles Championship at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary from Feb. 13-17 2014 (same dates and venue as the Mixed). Entries have to be in by Jan. 17 [date extended], with entry fee of $100 per two person team (no CCA competitor fee needed). Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com.  The winners of the provincial championship will advance to the 2014 Mixed Doubles Curling Trials, March 19-23, 2014 at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.

Under 18

The 2014 O’Connor Glass/Curl PEI Provincial Under 18 Curling Championships take place February 20-24 at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. The defending men’s and women’s champions, respectively, are the Tony Nabuurs rink, a combined team with members from the Charlottetown Curling Complex, and the Montague and Maple Leaf curling clubs, and the Jenny McLean foursome from Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Entries for this year’s championship are due on January 23. Entry fee is $140 per team. Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com.

Games in this event are 8 ends.

The winning men’s and women’s rinks will advance to the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, April 4-6 at the Gage Curling Club in Oromocto NB.

Senior (age 50+) Men’s and Women’s

The 2014 Credit Unions of PEI Provincial Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, for curlers age 50 and over, will be held February 20-22 at the Cornwall Curling Club. Defending champions are the Rod MacDonald rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex, and the Nola Murphy foursome from Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Entry deadline is January 23, and entry fee is $200 per team, plus a $35 per player per season Competitor Card fee. Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com Delivery sticks are not permitted in this event. The Seniors move from a 10 to an 8 end event this year.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will advance to the Canadian Seniors, to be held March 22-30, 2014 at the Yellowknife Curling Centre, the first time the Canadian Curling Association has ever held a national championship in the Northwest Territories..
