The City of Summerside is set to host Olympic curling medalists from around the world at the Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship taking place in the Eastlink Arena of Credit Union Place from April 15th to April 20th.
Men’s Olympic gold medalists from Canada skipped by Brad Jacobs have confirmed their attendance at the Players’ Championship. As they currently sit in first place in the World Curling Tour’s Order of Merit ranking system, they will come into the tournament as the favourites. Hoping to build on their Olympic gold medal, they expect to be in contention for the grand prize of $50,000.
On the women’s side, Olympic gold medalists from Canada led by Jennifer Jones will also be competing. After becoming the first female curling team in history to go undefeated at an Olympics they will be looking to continue their dominance at the Players’ Championship.

“It’s Absolutely amazing to have both Olympic gold medalists’ teams competing here to Summerside. There is going to be some first class curlers from all over the world here in our fine little city.” said Mayor Basil Stewart.
Also confirmed for the Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship are the men’s Olympic bronze medalists from Sweden skipped by Niklas Edin, as well as the women’s Olympic silver medalists, also from Sweden, skipped by Margaretha Sigfridsson and the bronze medalists from Great Britain, skipped by Eve Muirhead.
“It will be great to have the best curlers in the world competing at the Players’ Championship in the wonderful City of Summerside. The fans will see some excellent curling action” said Councillor Jim Steele, Chair of the City of Summerside’s Community Services Committee.
