Saskatchewan wins Canadian Firefighters curling ch’ship, PEI finishes at 1-8

Team Saskatchewan, skipped by Jeff Gartner, representing the Regina and Kronau fire departments, scored a deuce in the final end to edge Alberta 8-7 in the Saturday final of the 55th Canadian Firefighters Curling Championship, at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Saskatchewan finished round robin play in first place, with a 7-2 win-loss record, while Alberta went 6-3. Alberta won the Page 1 vs 2 game 8-4 over Sask., who then advanced to the final by edging British Columbia 9-8.

Another Saskatchewan rink, skipped by Gregg Tarasoff from the Saskatoon and Swift Current fire departments, won in 2013.

The PEI team, skipped by Jerry Hughes from the Crossroads Fire Dept., finished round robin play with 1 win and 8 losses.
