Homan, Jones advance to women’s semifinals (Journal)

SUMMERSIDE – Canadian women’s champion Rachel Homan and Olympic gold-medallist Jennifer Jones advanced to the women’s semifinals of the 2014 Players’ Championship.

Homan scored a deuce in the final end to defeat Stefanie Lawton 7-5 while Jones, who never led against Eve Muirhead, stole two points in an extra end to also win 7-5. The two quarter-final games were played at Eastlink Arena on Saturday afternoon.

In the semifinals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., Jones will face Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson in a rematch of the gold-medal game at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and Homan will take on Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland.
