There were some close finishes at the first annual Glen Afton Golf Club Under 13 Funspiel, and added U14 division, on Saturday at the Cornwall Curling Club. The event attracted 10 U13 teams and 4 U14.

The U13 division finished in a two team tie after the guaranteed three games, forcing a draw to the button between Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut rink, and the Alexis Burris foursome from Crapaud. The Schut team went through the house on their first shot, and were light on their second attempt, while the Burris rink were short of the house on their first draw, but made the rings on the second, for the first place honours.

Third place went to the Hayden Ford rink from Cornwall, while another draw to the button was needed to determine fourth place between the Noelle Handrahan foursome and the Jordan Condon-Dunphy team, both from the Silver Fox in Summerside, with the Handrahan team grabbing fourth place honours. Sponsor Merina Currie (pictured in the U13 team photos) from Glen Afton Golf Club was on hand to pass out the winning trophy, along with keeper plaques for both the winners and runners-up, cash prizes for the top four teams, and green fee door prizes as well.

The Under 14 divison was a late add to the event, with four teams entered. The Brandon O’Grady team from Cornwall and the Silver Fox finished in first place. with the Gillian Barbrick team from Cornwall finishing second.
