Jamie Newson must beat Adam Casey twice to deny Casey the Tankard (Journal)

ALBERTON — A 7-5 win by Adam Casey and his Silver Fox/Charlottetown Curling Complex team in the C final Monday afternoon in Alberton has narrowed the list of contenders for the Provincial Men’s Tankard curling championship to two teams.

Kevin Champion, from left, and Tyler MacKenzie discuss strategy while Adam Casey and Josh Barry wait the outcome of their deliberations Monday in the C final of the provincial Tankard curling championship. Casey won the game, eliminating MacKenzie from contention.

Casey had shot stone on the back of the four-foot well buried when Tyler MacKenzie settled into the hack to throw the hammer in the tenth end. He needed to curl around guards and grab a piece of the button, but the shot hung out and drifted deep, allowing Casey to score a single point.

Casey and his team of Josh Barry, Anson Carmody and Robbie Doherty goes into the play-off portion of the modified triple knock-out event clutching a 4-1 record and would need to be defeated twice by the 3-2 Jamie Newson foursome to be denied the title.

Newson and Casey have already met twice. Newson was the victor in the A event final but Casey squeezed out a win when the two teams met in the B final.

Draws Tuesday at the Western Community Curling Club are at 11 a.m. and, if necessary 3:30 p.m.
