Cornwall ready to rock, with Free Curling Instruction, Open House, new member registration, starting this evening

The Cornwall Curling Club starts its 2015-2016 season this evening, with free, no obligation, adult curling instruction, an Open House for prospective members, and registration for new members of all ages, Wednesday through Friday, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Those who would like to try this Olympic sport are invited to be there any or all of the three evenings (there is both new and continuing training each night), wear loose or stretchy pants, and a light jacket, and bring a clean pair of sneakers. Junior curlers receive training as part of their regular instructional sessions. For those who are interested in joining the Club, evening league curling gets underway on Oct. 19, and daytime (weekdays) 10 am to 12 noon curling, with a “pay to play” drop-in option for non-members, gets underway tomorrow.

The Club, which has more members than any other PEI curling facility, and had its clubhouse and ice plant replaced for the 2011-2012 season, has reconditioned its rocks over the summer months, and, combined with its Jet Ice system, is expecting excellent playing conditions for the new season. Tonight’s opening was delayed 24 hours from the original schedule, due to a faulty ice plant part which kept the ice from freezing, but staff and volunteers worked extra hours to get the ice in top form for today.
