SUMMERSIDE – The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside is looking to grow its curling programs.

“Curling is one of the best sports ever,” said Silver Fox president Sheila Compton. “Some of my best friends are from curling.”

Shelley MacFadyen, left, and Sheila Compton are hoping for a busy 2015-16 curling season at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Compton is the president of the Silver Fox, which is located in Summerside, and MacFadyen is the junior curling co-ordinator.

The Fox has experienced a decrease in members in recent years, but is hoping to see last year’s 215 total increase for the 2015-16 season. As an effort to achieve that goal, club officials hope to recruit new faces while reaching out to former members.

The Fox is offering programs for both youth and adults, with junior registration on Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. There were 58 juniors registered last year.

“We would like to have 100 (this year),” said Silver Fox junior curling co-ordinator Shelley MacFadyen, who added all equipment is provided for juniors.

The Fox, which will host a number of spiels throughout the season, will offer a number of options for adults, including a learn-to-curl league. This league will operate once a week.

Compton is eying a growth in stick curling as well.

Anyone interested in joining for the 2015-16 season can call The Fox at (902)-436-2153 for more information.
