PEI Credit Unions Seniors Ch’ship starts this afternoon in O’Leary

seniors

The PEI Credit Unions Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, with Male and Female divisions for curlers age 50 and over, take place Feb. 12-15 2016 at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. Six men’s and four women’s teams are competing. Defending champs are the Rod MacDonald rink from the Charlottetown and Silver Fox clubs, and the Shirley Berry rink from Cornwall and Charlottetown. MacDonald is back looking to defend his title.

The men’s and women’s championships will each play a modified triple knockout format, with the winners of each of the three sections advancing to the championship round. A team which wins a section, also drops down to play in subsequent sections. If a team wins all three sections, they will be declared champions without the 2 game championship round on Monday. A team that wins two sections will play in both championship games and will win the title if they take either game, while their opponent, the winner of the other section, would have to win both.

The winning teams will advance to the 2016 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, March 28-April 2, 2016 in Digby, NS.
