Veronica Smith (undefeated) and Suzanne Birt rinks advance to WFG Jim Sullivan Classic Quarter-finals

Two out of the three PEI rinks entered in the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John NB have advanced to this morning’s 8:30 quarter-final round.

Team Veronica Smith

The Veronica Smith team, runners-up to Sylvie Robichaud in the event last year, went undefeated, while Suzanne Birt and her team finished second in the same pool, losing only to Smith, by a 7-1 score, and also advance to the money round. Moncton’s Robichaud is the only other undefeated team in the women’s event. PEI’s Melissa Morrow rink, PEI Travelers finalists last season, finished out of the playoffs at 2-2 win-loss with wins over Andrea Crawford and Shelly Graham, but losing to Robichaud and to a Saint John team skipped by Marin McLeod.

The quarter-final matchups see Smith playing Justine Comeau, Birt taking on Cathlia Ward, Robichaud facing Erica Cluff, and Crawford playing Sarah Mallais. The semis go at noon, with the final at 3:30 Atlantic.

No PEI teams are entered on the men’s side, where 2015 and 2017 winner Jamie Murphy leads the pack with a 5-0 record.
