Birt rink begins play in ch’ship round at Scotties with 2 games on Thursday (Journal)

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — 

P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt will begin play in the championship round of the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Thursday.

Birt completed round-robin play 5-2 (won-lost) after losing 7-3 to Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle on Wednesday night. The top four teams from each eight-team pool advanced to the championship round of the Canadian women’s curling championship, and Birt’s Charlottetown Curling Complex rink was third in Pool B.

They will take on the winner of a morning tiebreaker between Manitoba’s Tracy Fleury (4-3) and British Columbia’s Sarah Wark (4-3) at 2:30 p.m. Then in the 7:30 p.m. draw, P.E.I. will face Alberta’s Chelsea Carey (7-0).
