Zacharias rink with Lauren Lenentine wins Larry Jones Jr. Classic, Tyler Smith team loses in quarters at Nautilus Slam

Winnipeg’s MacKenzie Zacharias rink from the Altona Curling Club, with PEI’s Lauren Lenentine at lead stone, went undefeated to win the women’s event at the Larry Jones Junior Classic this past weekend at the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg. This win earned the Zacharias team a berth in the provincials.

Meanwhile, PEI’s Tyler Smith rink picked up one win and three losses in round robin play at the U21+ Nautilus Slam at CFB Halifax, finishing 6th in the eight-team field. Team Smith then lost 7-5 to Team Ryan Hahn of the St Catharines Golf & Country Club in Ontario in the 3rd vs 6th place quarter-final. The Graeme Weagle team from Chester NS won the event, beating the Hahn foursome 8-2 in the final. The Justine Comeau team from Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club went undefeated to win the junior women’s event.
