Smith, Team MB with PEI’s Lenentine, improve to 2-0, Ferguson plays QC at 1 pm at Canadian Juniors

PEI’s Tyler Smith junior men’s team from the Montague Curling Rink are 2-0 following a 7-4 win over Smith’s former skip Liam Marin and Team NB in Saturday’s draw 3 of the New Holland Canadian Juniors in Langley BC. Smith will take on Quebec in his lone Sunday game at 11 pm Atlantic.

The Lauren Ferguson junior women’s foursome from Cornwall lost their opener 10-4 in eight ends to the Mackenzie Zacharias squad from Manitoba, which includes PEI’s Lauren Lenentine at lead. Lenentine previously skipped her PEI team which included current Ferguson team members Kristie Rogers and Rachel O’Connor to two PEI Junior titles. Ferguson hits the ice at 1 pm PEI time against Quebec, and faces Nova Scotia’s Taylour Stevens at 6.

Team Zacharias is now 2-0 following an 11-1 routing of Team Nunavut in 8 ends last night, and will take on Quebec in their only Sunday match, at 11 pm Island time. That game that will be streamed live at Curling Canada’s YouTube page, which you can access by CLICKING HERE.

Fourteen men’s and 14 women’s teams are competing for Canadian titles, separated into two seven-team pools per gender for the initial round-robin, followed by a Championship Round (top four in each pool) leading to the playoffs. The top team advances to its respective final on Sunday, Jan. 26, while the second- and third-place teams meet in a semifinal on Saturday, Jan. 25, to determine the other finalist.

Selected round-robin games (Sheet D) from the New Holland Canadian Junior Championships are being streamed live at Curling Canada’s YouTube page.

TSN/RDS2 will carry complete live coverage of the semifinals (women at 11 a.m. [all times PT], men at 4 p.m.) on Jan. 25 and finals (women at 9 a.m., men at 2 p.m.).

The winning teams will then represent Canada at the World Juniors in Russia.
