It’s down to one sudden-death championship game, between two host club teams, at 4 pm in the 17-team PEI Mixed Doubles Championship at the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside. The Jamie Newson and Miranda Ellis duo hope to make it three games in a row today, after scoring a triple in the final end to beat the Robbie Doherty and Amanda Power twosome from Charlottetown 9-6 to capture the “C” final in the morning draw, and then stealing a single in an extra end to edge the “A” and “B” section winners, Jenny and Edward White,  by a 10-9 score, in the first Championship Round game.

Team White led that contest 5-1 after 3 ends, but Newson/Ellis pulled ahead in the see-saw battle — 7-5 after 6 ends, with a deuce, a stolen single, and a stolen 3-pointer. The Whites then regained the lead, by a 9-7 score, with a four-point seventh end. A tying Newson/Ellis deuce forced the extra.

Had the Whites won that game, they would have taken the title as they won two sections, but the event will now go to a winner-take-all match between the two Summerside teams, at 4 pm.

Explanation for Championship Round (Games A and B):

1. If one team wins all three qualifying games*: Championship Round is not required.

2. If one team wins two qualifying games*:
They play in both A and B (and win the event if they win either game).
The other section winner plays in A and has to win to advance to B.

3. If there are three separate winners: the team that played in the most qualifying games* advances to B, and the other winners play off in A.
If there is a tie in the number of qualifying games* played, then the team that qualified earliest goes to B and the other two teams play off in A.
