Team Birt wins close quarter-final match, plays Jennifer Jones rink at 10 am Monday at Oakville Labour Day Classic

PEI’s Suzanne Birt team remains undefeated and has advanced to the 10 am Monday semi-finals, where they will be taking on the defending champion Jennifer Jones team from Winnipeg at the 15-team Oakville Labour Day Classic at the Oakville Curling Club in Ontario.

Team Birt edged the Thea Coburn rink from Toronto 5-4 in the 9 pm Sunday quarter-final round, while Jones, in her season-opening event, beat Jestyn Murphy of Mississauga 7-2. The final goes at 1:30 pm Monday. Hollie Duncan plays Tracy Fleury in the other semi. 

The winning team from the final goes home with $7000, with $3500 going to the runner-up. 3rd and 4th place teams receive $2000, with $1375 going to each of the remaining playoff teams.
