Bradley and defending Men’s champion Gorveatt both 1 win away from 2022 PEI Seniors (50+) Ch’ship titles

The PEI Seniors Curling Championships, for curlers in the 50+ age category, continued on Friday, March 18 at the Montague Curling Club in Montague / Three Rivers, Three women’s and an equal number of men’s teams are entered. On Friday, the Shelly Bradley foursome from Cornwall won their second Women’s qualifier, beating clubmate Shirley Berry, who made the championship game last year, by a 9-3 score.

In the Men’s division, defending champ Phillip Gorveatt and his team representing the host Montague club, doubled Cornwall’s Mark MacDonald 10-5, to win their second qualifier.

If either Bradley or Gorveatt also win their “C” qualifier, Saturday at 2 pm, they will take their respective championship without having to play the Sunday championship round. If not, as a double section winner, a victory in either Sunday championship round game at 10 am and 2 pm would give them the title, while their opponent, the winner of the other section, would have to win both.

Spectators are allowed at this event, with up to 100 people per day (including curlers, officials, etc.) permitted.

At last year’s event, the  Gorveatt rink went undefeated to repeat as Senior Men’s champs, winning his 4th Senior Men’s title in five years, while the Kim Dolan team, who are not back this year,  also went undefeated to repeat as Senior Women’s champions.

The winning teams advance to the 2022 Canadian Seniors from Dec. 5-10, 2022, at a location yet to be announced.
