PEI U18 Ch’ships start Fri. morning in Crapaud, with 3 Girls and 3 Boys teams entered

The PEI Under 18 Curling Championships, which were postponed in January, will now take place March 11, 12, and 13 at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.

The three girls teams and an equal number of boys rinks signed up will play a double round-robin format, followed by a two or three-game championship round, with the third game needed only if a team went through the double round-robin undefeated and loses their first championship game.

There will be new champions this year, as members of the defending champion Mitchell Schut and Rachel MacLean rinks (both of whom recently won the U21 event). are aged out of this event, although Cruz Pineau from Team Schut will be replacing (aged out) Liam Barbrick on Team Snow, which made it to the final in the U21, as did Ella Lenentine in the Girls section. Team Easter was also in the Girls championship round.

The winning Girls and Boys rinks from the PEI U18 Championships earn the right to advance to the 2022 Canadian Under-18 Curling Ch’ships, presented by Curling Canada, May 1-7, 2022 at the Oakville Curling Club, Oakville, Ont.

Spectators are not permitted at this year’s PEI U18, with the exception that, based on feedback from the Juniors, in addition to one coach each team can have one additional adult attend each day of the U18.  The adult must be the same person for the full day but can change from one day to the next.
