The Cornwall Curling Club’s Wednesday April 6 Super Series session on coaching, with Kathy O’Rourke, has room for more participants and is also open to coaches from other clubs, or those parents or curlers who might be interested in coaching. These sessions go from 4-5 pm.
Six-time Provincial Curling Champion, Canadian Mixed Champion, and current Coach of PEI’s Team Birt, Kathy O’Rourke will be leading a session on “Driven to Compete-Essential building blocks for athletes.”. This off-ice session will focus on different aspects of coaching: including building confidence, team dynamics, strategy, and basic nutrition. This clinic will be helpful both for experienced coaches and those who are new to coaching junior curling.
Kathy has represented PEI in eight Scotties as both a player and coach. In 2010, she skipped her team in an exciting final of the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts, winning a silver medal for Prince Edward Island. Kathy has also played in two Canadian Mixed Championships, winning the event in 1989. Throughout her career, Kathy has played every position at high-level competitions, giving her a wealth of knowledge and experience in curling. Kathy was inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2018, received the ‘Senate of Canada Award’ in 2019, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Curling Canada. Kathy is a member of the Cornwall Curling Club and is an incredible advocate for the sport in our community and on a national level.
