The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club and Charlottetown Curling Complex team, which also includes second Mark O’Rourke and lead Mark Butler, who were both on last year’s runner-up team, beat Charlottetown’s Blair Weeks rink 3-1 in a low scoring championship game this afternoon.

Weeks, and lead Mark Victor, who were both members of  the MacDonald rink last year, were joined this time by third Philip Gorveatt and second Mike Dillon.

Today’s game saw four blank ends, and no team scoring more than a single point in an end. MacDonald scored a point with opening end last rock advantage, and stole a single in the fourth. Weeks got on the board with a single in the six, and a MacDonald single in the eighth gave MacDonald a two point advantage at the end of the game, and a trip to the 2016 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, March 28-April 2, 2016 in Digby, NS. Weeks won the first of three modified triple knockout sections in the six team event, but MacDonald won the other two, both over Summerside’s Blair Jay, giving him the title today if he had won either of the two scheduled games, which he was able to do on the first try.

Joining the MacDonald foursome in Digby will be the Kim Dolan rink, who went undefeated to win the women’s championship on Sunday, beating Charlottetown clubmate Shelley Ebbett 8-4 in the “C” final of the four team modified triple knockout.

Kim Dolan wins PEI Credit Unions Senior Women’s Title, Rod MacDonald, Blair Weeks advance to men’s ch’ship round

The PEI Credit Unions Provincial Seniors Curling Championships, for curlers age 50 and over, is down to one or two games, with the Kim Dolan rink going undefeated to win the Women’s title this afternoon, leaving just the two game Men’s championship round on Monday at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.

Dolan, whose Charlottetown Curling Complex team includes third Susan McInnis, second stone Sandy Matheson, and lead Julie Scales, won her third section final in the four team modified triple knockout event this afternoon, making the championship round unnecessary. Dolan doubled clubmate Shelley Ebbett 8-4 in this afternoon’s C final, scoring 5 of her points in the third end. Dolan beat Ebbett 10-5 in the B final, and blanked Montague’s Kathy Clarey 8-0 in the A. She beat Ebbett 8-4 in the opening draw, and did not play the Karen Gallant team from the Western and Maple Leaf clubs, who did not manage to pick up a win in the event. The Dolan team will now advance to the 2016 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, March 28-April 2, 2016 in Digby, NS. Other members of the runner-up Ebbett rink are Kim Pippy, Cindy MacLean, and Karen Hardy.

Meanwhile, it’s down to two teams in the Senior Men’s section, with Rod MacDonald and his Silver Fox and Charlottetown team winning the C final in the six team modified triple knockout this afternoon, edging Summerside’s Blair Jay rink 8-7. Jay, fighting back from a five point MacDonald fourth end, stole a single in the last end, but needed a deuce for the tie. MacDonald also won the B section, and will have a “double life” in Monday’s championship round, as we will take the series if he wins either game, while his opponent, Charlottetown’s Blair Weeks, who beat MacDonald 5-1 in the A section final, would have to win both games, scheduled for 11 am and 3 pm Monday.
