2011 Canada Winter Games Mission Staff application deadline is Friday

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI (PEI Gov’t) — Team PEI is currently seeking interested people to serve on the Mission Staff for the 2011 Canada Winter Games. Islanders working in these twelve-month volunteer positions will support Prince Edward Island teams and athletes before and during the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The 2011 Games will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from February 11 – 27, 2011.

“Islanders showed their talent, dedication and hospitality during the 2009 Canada Games,” said Minister Bertram. “As we prepare for the 2011 Games, we know that the Team PEI Mission Staff will make a considerable contribution to our province’s sport development system. They will play a significant leadership role in helping young Island athletes prepare for the Canada Games.”

“Many Islanders contributed to staging a successful 2009 Games. Now we are encouraging Islanders who feel their volunteer experiences and/or training would be beneficial to the role of mission staff to let us know they are interested in these positions,” said Chef de Mission Jo-anne Wallace. “The Mission Staff are an integral part of Team PEI and help ensure our athletes, coaches and managers have the best possible experience preparing for, and participating in, the Games.”

Mission staff members will work under the direction of the Chef and Assistant Chef de Mission and are responsible to serve in a variety of roles including team liaisons, logistical committees, and public relations. Team PEI is accepting applications from Islanders with a variety of skills who have a sport and or recreation background, can help out with pre-games activities and can be available full time during one of the two weeks of the Games.
