PEI’s Gordon MacFadyen rink from the Summerside Fire Department had an 8-5 win over Alberta in the morning draw, aided by a 6th end triple, but lost to BC, also by an 8-5 score, in the afternoon round today at the Canadian Firefighters Curling Championship in Regina. PEI, whose record is now 2-4, was leading 4-2 against BC after stealing ends five and six, but BC took four in the seventh and stole a deuce in the eighth end to pull ahead. Other members of the PEI rink are Leo Stewart, Dwayne MacNeil. and Wayne Arsenault. PEI plays the Northwest Territories and Manitoba on Wednesday.

British Columbia and defending champion Saskatchewan lead the round robin standings with 5-1 win-loss records, followed by Northern Ontario at 5-2, Manitoba at 4-2, and New Brunswick and Southern Ontario at 3-3. Round robin play continues Wednesday and Thursday with draws at 1 and 6 pm Atlantic time. The top four teams from the round robin will then advance to the Page playoff round, where the 1st and second teams play off, with the winner advancing directly to the Saturday final at 4 PM Atlantic, and the loser facing the winner of a Page game between the third and fourth place teams in the semi-final, with the winner of that game advancing to the final.
