UPEI splits games today to go to 1-2 at CIS/CCA championship

The UPEI Panthers team of Brett Gallant, Alex MacFadyen, Sam Ramsay, and Connor MacPhee split their games today at the CIS/CCA University Curling Championship, hosted by Brock University, and being played at the Welland Curling Club in Welland, Ont., and have a 1-2 win-loss record after three draws. The Island university rink lost this morning by a 5-4 score to the Manitoba Bisons, but scored two 4-enders in a 10-4 win over the Alberta Golden Bears this afternoon.

The Waterloo Warriers and the Manitoba Bisons are 3-0 while the Brock Badgers host team and the Alberta Golden Bears are 2-1. The other Atlantic men’s team entered, from Acadia, is skipped by Robert Mayhew and coached by Island native and 1977 World Junior champion Alan Mayhew. They are 0-3.

On the women’s side, the SMU team skipped by Seven Mile Bay PEI native Anita Casey, and the MUN rink captained by Erin Porter are both 0-3. The Brock Badgers and the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks lead at 3-0, followed by the Manitoba Bisons and Alberta Pandas at 2-1.

Action at the CIS/CCA University Curling Championship continues at the Welland Curling Club until the finals on Sunday, March 18.
