Curling season coming to a close at PEI clubs

The 2011-2012 curling season is wrapping up at PEI’s seven curling clubs, as well as the two arenas that host curling part-time.

The Montague Curling Club held its 34th annual Milk Can closing spiel the weekend of March 30, won by the rink of David Rice, Tracy Yorston Campbell, Shelley Rice and Darryl Campbell. Click for more info from the Eastern Graphic. The club’s awards banquet takes place on April 28.  The Eastern Kings SportsPlex wrapped up its curling season on Saturday with 32 teams competing for the Lobster Trap trophy, won by the Paul Deveau rink. The Crapaud Community Curling Club is holding its Noonan Petroleum Meltdown from April 13 – 15, while the Cornwall Curling Club’s Countyview Golf Closing Spiel goes April 13-14, followed by a skate on the ice and a pizza party for their junior curlers on the 15th. The Charlottetown Curling Club is holding its closing banquet on April 27, with tickets available at the club.

In Prince County, the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton wrapped up curling the weekend of March 30 with the playing of the Hardy and Griffin Year-End Spiel, won by Bob Matheson team. A closing banquet is planned for mid-April. Curling concluded at the end of March at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, and has wrapped up at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, where volunteers are getting ready to help out at the Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship, April 17 to 22 at Credit Union Place.
