Gushue rink drops opener at Shorty Jenkins Classic

Twenty-four men’s teams, including defending champion John Epping and his team, along with the Kevin Koe and Jeff Stoughton rinks, and recent Baden Masters winner Sven Michel of Switzerland. are competing in the $40,700 Shorty Jenkins Classic in Brockville, Ontario this weekend.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Brad Gushue team, which includes PEI natives Adam Casey and Brett Gallant, is also in the event, and dropped their opening game this evening, 10-6 to Ottawa’s Brian Lewis foursome. Gushue was down one coming home with hammer, but gave up a steal of 3 in the final frame. Team Gushue now takes on the Joe Frans rink from Bradford Ont., Saturday morning at 9 Atlantic.

The 12 team women’s side of the event includes Sherry Middaugh, Rachel Homan, Marie France Larouche, and Scotland’s Eve Muirhead.

The finals are Sunday afternoon at 4:30 AT.
