Tankard

Depending on the number of teams who signup, the 2013 Men’s Tankard Provincial Curling Championship will be held as one, or two events. Subject to adjustment, it is estimated that, if there are 10 or fewer teams, there will be only one event, the Final at Crapaud. If there are 11 or more teams, there will be one open playdown event as well. There is one entry fee to cover all events. The Open playdown, if needed, is scheduled for Jan. 17-20, at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. The Tankard Final goes Feb. 6-10 at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.

Defending champions, the rink of Mike Gaudet, Tyler MacKenzie, Tyler Harris, and Sean Clarey have already entered this year’s event, along with five other teams. The winning team from this year’s Tankard will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 2-10 in Edmonton Alberta.

Entry fee is $200 per team plus $35 per player/per season CCA Competitor fee, payable with the player’s first event each season.

Scotties

For the second consecutive year, the Prince Edward Island Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be held at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. Last year, for the first time since 1999, Kim Dolan won the title, and returned to the national Scotties, in Red Deer Alberta. Her team also included Rebecca Jean MacDonald, a six-time PEI women’s champ, who threw final stones for Dolan when she won in 1995, 1997, and 1999, at third, along with Kim’s daughter Sinead at second, lead Nancy Cameron, and alternate lead Michala Robison, with coach Peter MacDonald. They defeated the Meaghan Hughes rink in the final. The Dolan rink, without Cameron, have entered again this year, along with three other teams so far.

This year’s event will take place January 23-27 (start and end dates may vary slightly, depending on number of entries). Entries close on December 20th. Team entry fee is $200, plus applicable CCA participant fees of $35 per player per season. The national Scotties event will be held in Kingston Ont., Feb. 16-24
