KFC and Curl PEI are again sponsoring two events for the Under 13 age category – the boys and girls provincial championships, from March 7-10 at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, and a fun tournament for beginning curlers, with a maximum of two curlers with two or more years experience permitted on a team, on March 24 at the Cornwall Curling Club. The Owen Collier rink from the Montague Curling Club and the Sarah Parsons team from the Crapaud Community Curling Club are last year’s U13 provincial champs.

Entry deadline for the KFC U13 boys and girls Provincials has now been extended to Wednesday February 13. Entry fee is $120/team. Draw format will be determined by the number of entries. To-date, three boys and five girls teams have signed up.

The deadline to enter the fun tournament is March 1, with an entry fee of $20 per person. Any combination of boys and girls is permitted on a team for the fun event, which also includes off-ice fun and games. Coach or chaperone is requested to be on the ice for each game.

In both events, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded to the top 3 teams, based on total points (10 pts for a win, 5 for a tie, 2 points/end, and 1 pt difference of score up to max. of 5). All games are 6 ends in the Provincials, and 4 ends in the fun tournament.

The 2013 Curl PEI Provincial Junior Mixed Curling Championships, for teams of two male and two female curlers, with both Under 21 and Under 16 divisions (due to scheduling, teams can enter only one division), take place March 15 to 18 at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. Last year’s Under 16 winners were the Cameron Jenkins rink from Charlottetown. The Under 21 winners, the Sarah Fullerton foursome, also from Charlottetown, will not be competing this year, as they have graduated from the Junior ranks.

Entry deadline is February 15. Entry fee is $140/team. Entries must be made online at PEICurling.com.

Payment can be made online or by cheque and must reach Curl PEI within a week after the entry date.
