Host club and St. John’s teams win 20th annual Oak Island Junior Spiel in Chester NS

It was a case of home and away at the 20th annual Oak Island Junior Cashspiel in Chester NS over the weekend. Mary Fay of the host Chester Curling Club took the top prize on the junior women’s side while Steven Trickett won the junior men’s prize. Trickett was one of two teams from the Remax Center in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Fay and her team of Jennifer Smith, Karlee Burgess and Janique LeBlanc defeated former clubmate Micayla Dorey, now curling out of Wolfville, in the final. The Fay foursome went through the weekend without a loss. The rest of the Dorey team is Sarah Brine, Olivia Dennis and Halee Nauss.

On the junior men’s side,  Steven Trickett. beat Robert Mayhew of Wolfville in the final. Adam Bolland, Evan Kearly and Zach Young make up the rest of the Trickett foursome.

Three PEI rinks took part, with Cornwall’s Amanda MacLean and Charlottetown’s Matthew MacLean rinks both finishing at 2-2, and the Kyle Holland team from Charlottetown going 0-4.

12  junior men’s and 8 junior women’s teams took part.  The winning men’s rink, skipped by Trickett went home with $900, with the winning women’s team, skipped by Fay, earning $700.
