PEI Curlers are reminded of a number of entry deadlines this month to provincial championships and developmental events.As well, the Scotties women’s championship, the Future Scotties developmental event, Masters men’s and women’s championships for those age 60 and over, and the Tankard men’s championship and Future Tankard developmental event are taking place this month. Entries for the Tankard close this Friday the 8th, while the Future Tankard closes on the 15th. Entries have already closed for the other January championships.

Tankard:

The PEI Tankard provincial men’s curling championship is scheduled for the Charlottetown Curling Complex Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 2016. Entry deadline is Jan. 8. Entry fee is $180 per team plus $36 per player Curling Canada competitor fee.

Future Tankard:

The PEI Future Tankard developmental event for male curlers under 21 is scheduled for the Charlottetown Curling Complex Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 2016. Entry deadline is Jan. 15. Entry fee is $80 per team.

Stick:

The PEI Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home 2 Person Stick Curling Championships take place Feb. 9-11 2016 at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.

Entry deadline is January 19, 2016. Entry fee is $60 per team.

Seniors:

The PEI Credit Unions Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Ch’ships, with Male and Female divisions for curler age 50 and over take place Feb. 12-16 2016 at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. Entry deadline is Jan. 22. Entry fee is $180 per team, plus $36 per player Curling Canada competitor fee.

Under 18

The PEI Under 18 Curling Championships, with male and female divisions for curlers under the age of 18 years, will take place Feb. 19-23 2016 at the Cornwall Curling Club. Entry deadline is Jan. 29 2016 and team entry fee is $120. Enter online at PEICurling.com

January provincial championships and developmental events

Scotties and Future Scotties

The  Montague Curling Rink are the hosts for the 2016 PEI Scotties Provincial Women’s Curling Championship, and the Future Scotties developmental event for female curlers under age 21, who may one day compete in the Scotties. These events take place January 15-19, 2016 (dates may vary slightly, depending on final schedule). Entries have closed for these events. These events are sponsored by Kruger Products.

Defending PEI Scotties champions are the Suzanne Birt rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex, who beat their clubmates the Kathy O’Rourke team by a 10-4 score in last year’s final at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. It was Birt’s 8th PEI women’s title. She is back, with a new team, this year. This year’s winning team advances to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts. February 20-28, 2016 at Revolution Place, in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Masters

The 2015-2016 PEI Masters Curling Championships, with Men’s and Women’s divisions for curlers age 60 and over take place at the Crapaud Community Curling Club from January 22-26, 2016.

Winners and runners-up from the provincial championships will advance to the 2016 Maritime Masters Curling Championships to be held at Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club from March 11 to 13, 2016. The winning rinks, or the runners-up if they don’t choose to attend,  are also invited to participate in the 2016 Kings County Canadian Masters Championships, April 4-10 at the Glooscap Curling Club in Kentville NS and the Wolfville Curling Club.

Defending Island champions are the Mel Bernard rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, and the Shirley Berry foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club and the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Tankard and Future Tankard

Tankard

The PEI Tankard provincial men’s curling championship is scheduled for the Charlottetown Curling Complex Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 2016. Defending champions are the Adam Casey rink. The winning team will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 5-13, 2016 at TD Place in Ottawa Ontario.

Entry deadline is Jan. 8. Entry fee is $180 per team plus $36 per player Curling Canada competitor fee.

The PEI Future Tankard developmental event for male curlers under 21 is scheduled for the same time and venue. Entry deadline is Jan. 15. Entry fee is $80 per team.
