Day two is over at the nine team Atelka PEI Mixed Fours Curling Championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, and the Jamie Newson rink from Charlottetown and Crapaud is in the lead in the modified triple knockout event. They edged the Sharon Horne team from the host club 5-4 this morning to advance to the 2 pm A section final against the Veronica Smith team from Crapaud and Cornwall, which the Newson squad, which includes Vanessa Hamming, Tyler Harris, and Miranda Ellis, won by an 8-4 score.

Newson then edged Montague and Crapaud’s Cody Dixon rink 5-4 in the 6 pm draw to advance to the B final at 2 pm Sunday, where he’ll take on the winner of a 10 am game between Veronica Smith and Sharon Horne. The C semi-finals go 6 pm Sunday, with the C final at 11 am Monday.

Unless Newson wins all three section finals, the two game championship round goes Monday at 3 pm and, if necessary, Tuesday at 6.

The winning team will advance to the 2017 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, Nov. 14-19, 2016, at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth, NS. The Mixed Fours are the traditional 4 person competition, while the Mixed Doubles is the newer 2 person format, which has a separate championship.
