Suzanne Birt wins the 2023 PEI Scotties

The Suzanne Birt rink, from the Cornwall Curling Club, controlled the C section final of the PEI Scotties against the Darlene London team from the Montague Curling Club in front of a crowd on Saturday evening at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.  Team Birt won the A and B events on Thursday and Friday respectively, under the rules a championship round is not required when a team wins all three sections of the modified triple-knockout draw.

Birt is backed up by Marie Christianson (calls the game, throws third), Michelle Shea (second), Meaghan Hughes (lead), Sinead Dolan (alternate) and coached by Danny Christianson.

Finalists in this event is the Melissa Morrow rink from the Summerside Curling Club.  While team Morrow was not playing in the C section final, they played in the A and B section finals, making them this year’s Finalists.  Other members of the Melissa Morrow team include Darcee Birch, Lindsey Cameron, Miranda Ellis and coach, Jamie Newson.

The Birt foursome will now advance to the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, February 17-26 at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, BC.

The PEI Tankard, held concurrently at the same venue, will wrap up Sunday at 9am or 2pm.  Tyler Smith and Darren Higgins are in the championship round, the event will be over if Tyler Smith wins either game.
