It took an extra end, but the Veronica Smith rink from Cornwall and Crapaud went undefeated to edge the defending champion James Dalton team from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club and the Cornwall Curling Club by a 4-3 score in this afternoon’s final of the Advantage Communications / Curl PEI Provincial Junior Mixed curling championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. The game saw neither team score more than a single point in an end, with Dalton opening the scoring with a steal in the first end, and Smith tying the game in the second end. Dalton blanked the third and was kept to a single in the fourth. Smith took the next two ends for a 3-2 lead. Smith blanked the seventh to have hammer coming home, and tied the game with a single in eight. Smith took one in the extra end to pull out the win.

Other members of the Smith rink are third Tyler Smith, second Emily Gray, and lead Tyson Smith, with coach Paul Smith. Playing with Dalton were third Lauren Lenentine, second Matthew MacDonald, and lead Breanne Burgoyne, with coach Pat Quilty.
Smith went undefeated in round robin play to finish in first place with a 4-0 win-loss record, while Dalton had just one lost, 8-2 to Smith, ending the round robin at 3-1. Donald DeWolfe and his Crapaud and Cornwall teams went 2-2, while Mitchell Schut, from Cornwall and Crapaud ended play at 1-3, and Montague’s Owen Collier was 0-4.
