PEI’s Bernard rink has 1st loss – no undefeated teams remain at Dominion Legion Ch’ships

Three teams – Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario (3-1), PEI and Nova Scotia/Nunavut (both 2-1) have only one loss, as Monday play wrapped up at the Dominion Legion Curling Championships at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Saskatchewan and Quebec are both 2-2, while BC/Yukon is 1-2, and Newfoundland and Labrador are 0-3.

PEI’s Mel Bernard rink, from the Summerside Legion, was down one coming home in their afternoon game against Quebec, but the Mike Normandeau rink from the Hudson Curling Club stole the last end for an 8-6 win. Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario’s Blair Goethals team also had their first loss in the afternoon draw, losing 8-3 to Nova Scotia/Nunavut’s Steve Elder rink from the Fairview Branch. Saskatchewan lost their first game in the morning draw, 10-2 to PEI.

Tuesday round robin draws are also  at 10 am and 3 pm, with PEI taking on Nova Scotia/Nunavut in the morning, and  BC/Yukon in the afternoon. The Bernard team wraps up round robin play at 9 am on Wednesday, against Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario. The team with the best round robin record wins the event. If a tiebreaker game is needed, it will go Wednesday afternoon at 2.
