The Montague Curling Club has announced that they will be closed this Monday through Wednesday.

Junior Curling Announcement:
With the PEI Government announcement on Sunday afternoon of a change to Alert Level Red (Restricted) with Modifications, organized sport and recreation activities on PEI, including curling, are not permitted beginning at 12:01 am, Monday, 1 March 2021, for 72 hours, until 12:01 am Thursday, 4 March, 2021. These measures are a time-limited intervention in order to get control of the situation at hand and break the chain of transmission of COVID-19. The previously-announced Circuit Breaker, which permits team and individual practices, but not games or tournaments, will resume at that point.
More detailed information on the Alert Level Red Measures with Modifications can be found at the following link:

We want to thank all our members, curlers, sponsors, volunteers, staff and board for another great year and for working so hard to try and get through these tough times.
Thanks again, be safe and see you next season.”

This Award recognizes a builder in the sport of curling and is named in honour of the late CBC curling producer Joan Mead.
2021 winner — Shannon Kleibrink (click here for photo)
Kleibrink, who won bronze for Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics, also has been an active coach in the Calgary area, as well as overseas.
She is a long-time committee member of the prestigious Autumn Gold Ladies Bonspiel in Calgary, most recently as Treasurer (for eight years), and won the Ray Kingsmith award in 2014, signifying outstanding contributions to women’s curling.
Kleibrink was a vice-chair of the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier and 2015 Continental Cup in Calgary.
This past October, Kleibrink was hired by Curling Alberta as the Director of Community Centre Development.
On a drama-filled evening at WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, the field was whittled down to a final four to contest for gold at 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Yes, three playoff berths were available heading into the final draw of round-robin play on Saturday, but as it turns out, one more game will be necessary to determine the playoff combatants.
What we do know is that Ontario’s Rachel Homan and her team from Ottawa (10-2) will play in the gold-medal game at 8:30 p.m. (all times Eastern), and reigning champion Kerri Einarson and her Team Canada squad from Gimli, Man., (10-2) will play in the semifinal at 2:30 p.m.
But the other semifinalist won’t be known until after a third-place tiebreaker that will feature six-time Scotties champion Jennifer Jones and Manitoba (9-3; Winnipeg) taking on Laura Walker and Alberta (9-3; Edmonton) at 10 a.m.
Under Scotties rules, ties in the standings between playoff teams — Team Ontario and Team Canada, in this instance — can be broken based on their head-to-head result, and Ontario’s win over Team Canada on Friday decided the bye to the final. But ties in the standings for the final playoff position must be decided by a tiebreaker game as teams cannot be eliminated from the playoffs based on round-robin head-to-head results. Alberta’s head-to-head win over Manitoba will give Team Walker last-rock advantage in the first end of the tiebreaker.
Homan, vice-skip Emma Miskew, second Sarah Wilkes, lead Joanne Courtney, alternate Danielle Inglis and coach Randy Ferbey, meanwhile, can sleep in and relax after nailing down its bye to the final with a 7-2 win over Saskatchewan’s Sherry Anderson (6-6; Saskatoon).

“Personally? Pretty relieved to not have to play three games tomorrow,” said a smiling Homan. “But I know we were ready to do whatever it took to be in that final. Thankfully, we were able to get that bye, get some rest and get our feet up.”
Homan is seeking her fourth Scotties title, and first since 2017; she lost the 2019 final to Alberta’s Chelsea Carey and lost last year’s final to Einarson’s Manitoba team.
“I mean, that’s (playing in the 2021 Scotties final) been our goal ever since our season shut down and we didn’t have anything else to play in,” she said. “We really wanted to get to the final and see what we could do, and then to be able to put the Maple Leaf on our back would be another dream come true. We’re going to work and fight hard to the last rock, and hopefully we can make more (shots) than the other team.”
Both Manitoba and Alberta won their games Saturday night to force the tiebreaker. Manitoba needed an extra end to beat Team Canada 10-9, while Alberta stole deuces in the eighth and ninth ends for a 9-4 win over Team Wild Card #1’s Chelsea Carey (6-6; East St. Paul, Man.).
In the other Saturday night game, Team Wild Card #3’s Beth Peterson (7-5; Winnipeg) turned back Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges (6-6; Laval-sur-le-Lac) 10-3.

From the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside:
(Report from Club Manager Lori Fitzpatrick)
We can’t imagine that anyone had more fun on #CurlingDayinCanada on Saturday than we did right here on 29 Cornwall Road!! … but we sure hope others did!
As a part of Curling Day in Canada our Club partnered with ParaSport and Recreation PEI to host our first annual “Cornwall Curling Club and ParaSport and Recreation PEI” Mini-Spiel ….and what a time!!
Sam’s Pizza for lunch!
A little coffee and snack to start the day…some fun curling and many great shots were made…a delicious pizza lunch..and tons of great door prizes…
But most of all. LOTS of fun and laughter!!
Laughter filled our clubhouse and shouts of “Great shot!” and “Great Try!” on the ice!
This event was nothing less than heartwarming and we felt it embodied the essence of this great sport~ that is community, connections, physical and mental aptitude … and some good healthy competition!!
A few tears and gratitude were shared ~that we have this opportunity to share space with each other, so much laughter that our tummies hurt, and a true appreciation to be able to be curling this sport… especially right now during these unusual times.
We express a genuine thank you to ParaSport for partnering with us on this event. It was such a pleasure to watch these athletes Curl! I mean wow! So many good shots out there! Guards thrown up, takeouts, and draws to the rings!
A special thank you to Tracy Stevenson, Executive Director for ParaSport and Recreation PEI for all of her time and commitment in planning this fun mini-spiel! Thank you to Kyla, Parasport Program Coordinator, for wearing many hats and being such a cherished part of the event!
We also thank all of our members for bringing their true enthusiasm for the sport of curling and their love of community with them today. It was such a touching experience to look out on the ice and see so many incredibly kind and beautiful people sliding, sweeping, yelling “hurry hard!”… and acting as sweetly during this event as they do every day… that’s is sweet comradeship and kindness.
(And even a competitive but friendly banter!)
