The three-person rink of skip Dave Kassner, along with Adam Kassner and Nick Oakley, scored an eight-ender on Sunday in the Commercial League at the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Their opponents had shot rock on the button and a second stone in the eight-foot circle. With his final shot of the end, Kassner made a double take-out and stayed in the rings for a count of eight.
It’s his first eight-ender in his 50 year curling career, and he reports that he is now on par with his mother, who recorded one several years ago.
The Montague Curling Club held their annual “Curl for Cancer” event on Sunday, raising $4100, from curling, bake sale, auctions, a road race, and other events.

In the championship game, down one coming home with last rock, Team Smith executed a through-the–port raise takeout to score two and edge the Dennis Watts team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex by a 6-5 score.

Approximately 50 people of all ages, who are both new to Canada and new to one of Canada’s most popular winter sports, took to the ice at the Cornwall Curling Club this evening for an introduction to “the roaring game”. The event, organized by the Club and the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, (PEIANC) continues for the next two Sunday evenings.

Both PEIANC Executive Director Craig Mackie and Joe Byrne, their Community Connections Supervisor, along with Cornwall Curling Club President Frank Martin, helped out with the event, all saying that said they were very pleased with both the turnout and the event. The smiles on the curlers’ faces, and the enthusiasm they showed for the sport all indicated that the introduction to curling was a success.
If other newcomers would like to attend on either January 18 (7-9 PM), or the 25th (6-8 PM), they are asked to get in touch with Joe Byrne at 902-628-6009 x224 or email [email protected]
